Naomi & Naz | Isle of Skye Elopement

Naomi & Naz - also known as my Sister & NOW Brother-In-Law booked us to capture their Wedding Portraits up in the Highlands. They’d never been to the Highlands or to the Isle of Skye before so this made the trip even more special.

These two saw their wedding postponed, cancelled, rescheduled - the whole Covid shebang and ended up being able to get officially married in March of 2021. Then in July they hosted a garden party to celebrate with their loved ones and do speeches. And then in September they came up to Scotland and we set off on an adventure together!

On the Friday we left our home in Edinburgh at 6am to start the adventure road trip. We arrived in Glencoe at 9am whist the moon was still out and the sun was rising! We photographed them in some of our favourite spots in Glencoe before continuing our journey to Glenfinnan Viaduct to see the iconic Harry Potter train and then we headed to Mallaig where we took them to our favourite beach that we had almost entirely all to ourselves. From there we caught the ferry to Armadale (Skye). When in Skye we stocked up on food from the Co-op and headed to our beautiful AirBnB where we popped the fire on and Naz made an incredible Plantain & Yam curry.

On Saturday morning we woke up bright and early and headed to the Fairy Glen at 8am where we spent roughly an hour with the Glen to ourselves. Nomes & Naz read their vows to each other and the rain began to fall. We then headed to the Quiraing stopping off on Skye’s misty roads along the way. This trip Skye really did live up to her name of ‘The Misty Isle’. At the Quiraing the winds were strong - stronger than we’ve ever experienced before but it was amazing. The mist was thick but it just made the experience all the more atmospheric - a true whirlwind adventure! Naz said whist looking out at the Quiraing that this was his favourite view ever! We then ventured down to An Corran Beach in Staffin (the black sand beach) and as we arrived the tide was just starting to go out - we spent a moment acclimatising our cameras (this is something to note if you’re getting married in wild weather conditions - your photographer will need time to acclimatise their gear if you’re driving between locations) and suddenly the skies started to clear. A true moment of calmness after a storm! We then headed into Portree for some well deserved fish and chips stopping off at Kilt Rock just for a nosey on the way. We wandered round the shops in Portree and then on our way back to the AirBnB we stopped off at Edinbane Pottery. Naomi is a talented ceramicist and Skye is well known for it’s ceramics so visiting Edinbane Pottery was a must - it was absolutely full of the most gorgeous, delicate and sentimental pottery. In the evening we ate food and cosied up by the fire and Naz made the most incredible Vegan hot chocolate - it was the perfect end to the perfect day.

On Sunday we had another early start and headed to there Fairy Pools - this was Naomi’s favourite part of the trip! We’d also never been to the Fairy Pools so it was so lovely getting to do something new! The weather was intense and the skies were constantly changing but it was so beautiful! We then started our journey back home - along the way we made some furry friends, stopped off at the Isle of Skye Candle Company, ordered lunch from Gusto and Stopped off at the Three Sisters in Glencoe. It was such an incredible weekend trip - Nomes & Naz had the best time and it was just so so lovely getting to capture this experience for them!
